The purpose of hair removal with the Alexandrite laser is to destroy the hair follicle so that no hair grows from it. The dark pigment in the hair absorbs the laser energy, which permanently destroys the hair follicle. Each hair goes through several growth phases – anagen (growth), catagen (transition) and telogen (resting). All hair removal lasers are only effective on hair follicles in the anagen phase, which is why one treatment is not enough and the visit usually has to be repeated an average of 6 times every 1-2 months.

On average, 6-8 treatments are recommended, which are carried out every 4-7 weeks. The final number of procedures depends on the characteristics of each organism, is individual, and it is often difficult to predict in advance how many procedures are needed to achieve the final result. After the initial course is completed, 1-2 treatments per year are recommended to maintain the results.

The laser pulse destroys the hair follicle and in most cases the dead hairs are removed immediately after the procedure or pushed out of the skin by themselves within about 2 weeks. The course of treatments usually consists of an average of 6-8 treatments, which are carried out every 4-7 weeks and the frequency of which is recommended by a specialist, taking into account the condition of the skin and hair. After laser hair removal is complete, maintenance treatments are recommended about 1-2 times a year to remove newly formed hair follicles. Both the required course and the frequency of the care procedures are highly individual, as hair growth depends on a variety of factors in the body: genetics, hormones, medications used, nutritional supplements, deficiency or excess of certain substances in the body, tanning habits, adherence to specialist recommendations, etc.

The first procedure always begins with a short consultation during which the specialist will answer your questions, assess the condition of your skin and hair, and ask you about your medical history and the medications you are taking.

Then the alexandrite laser hair removal begins – the laser tip is directed at the selected part of the body, where the pulses are evenly distributed. The cold air cooling cools the skin evenly throughout the procedure, ensuring maximum comfort. It is recommended to wear protective goggles throughout the procedure. To ensure your safety, choose only approved medical facilities for such procedures.

Preparing for laser hair removal is not complicated:
· Do not use epilators, depilatory wax, tweezers or other hair removal tools for at least 4 weeks before the procedure – you can only shave the selected areas;
· Avoid direct sunlight or use SPF50 for at least 2 weeks before the procedure and 2 weeks after; do not use self-tanning products;
· Make sure to cleanly shave the areas where the hair will be removed with the laser on the same day or the day before the procedure;
· Before the visit and at least a few days after, avoid new, previously untested creams, other cosmetics and ensure the hygiene of these areas;
· During the visit, inform the specialist about your medical history, current and past illnesses, medications, dietary supplements you are taking – this can determine the safety and effectiveness of the procedure.

Alexandrite laser hair removal is not performed on pregnant women, people with cancer (the procedure can usually be performed after consultation with your oncologist after 5 years of remission), people with epilepsy, or people taking certain medications. Such a procedure is also not performed on or near the tattoo. The specialist assesses each case individually, so they may recommend postponing the procedure after evaluating your medical history.

You may need to postpone the procedure or choose a milder laser mode if the skin is permanently tanned or pigmented. In this case, the specialist may advise you to choose a laser with a different wavelength (e.g. diode).

We are also often asked whether the procedure can be performed on women who are breastfeeding. Although this is not a strict contraindication, hormones still fluctuate during breastfeeding, which greatly affects the effectiveness of the procedure. Therefore, the woman herself should decide whether to undergo the procedure now or postpone it to a later date.

Although the Deka Again Pro alexandrite laser hair removal is extremely safe, some people may experience temporary side effects such as skin redness, swelling, acne breakouts (folliculitis). In rare cases, allergic reactions may occur and, extremely rarely, blisters, scarring and changes in skin pigmentation.
